Lately I’ve been obsessed with all things red truck! When I saw this inexpensive set of ornaments at the dollar store, I immediately grabbed a few packs. They are a little small to place on a larger tree as-is, but they’d be perfect for a mini tree - not to mention the crafting possibilities for these are endless!! I mean...how stinkin’ cute are they!?
And 4/$1... yes, please!
My first thought for these was to use them to embellish gifts, which is super cute!!
Next, I thought these would make great holiday napkin rings! Don’t they look perfect with my mixture of vintage & Pioneer Woman plates!?
My daughter and I were talking earlier this week about homeschool and she mentioned that the only thing she missed about being in school was making Christmas ornaments. I immediately knew that this crafting mama had to do something about that, so I pulled these babies out to see what I could come up with. We had just bought some fake snow from dollar tree, so I thought we’d add them into a snowy background. Normally I would use scrap wood or wooden coasters for crafts like this, but I didn’t have any on hand. I remembered that I had a lot of these wooden candle lids saved from another craft so I grabbed those instead.
Materials used:
Glue Gun
Glue Sticks
Dollar Store Truck Ornaments
Wooden Candle Lids or Wooden Coasters
Tacky Glue or Mod Podge
Fake Snow
Twine or Scrap Ribbon
Scrap Wrapping Paper or Scrapbooking Paper (optional)
I started by removing the seals from the candle lid.
Then we removed the wire from the truck ornament and set it aside. (We will reuse this for the ornament hanger later.)
Add a this layer of glue to the bottom half of the wooden lid. You may need to spread it out with a small paintbrush.
Sprinkle fake snow over the glue and let dry. You can use a heat gun or hair dryer for this step.
Then, hot glue the truck on top of the snow. You may need to press it firmly in place until it dries.
Then finish off by adding a bow embellishment with some bakers twine. You can use jute twine or scrap ribbon.
For adding the wire hanger, I used a large safety pin to poke holes into the wooden lid and hot glued the wire in place. We added her name and date to the back and then added them to the tree!
You can mix this project up a bit by decoupaging some scrap wrapping paper, scrapbook paper, etc to the lid instead of the snow.
This ended up being a very inexpensive, kid friendly project for my daughter and I.
